I got my new aero-bar elbow cradles put on today. Two long rides ago my left cradle broke (I didn’t even know that could happen)….so I’ve been riding with my weight shifted to the right for a while. I don’t think this was very good for my little back muscles. So, I’m happy to report I put on brand-spankin-stiff new ones, and they are rearin’ to go.

While I was on trisports.com ordering my elbow cradles (and no that’s not the technical term) I also ordered a quick mount for my garmin to go from bike to run, or actually just to sit on my bike because I’m really starting to get some crazy garmin tan lines. Also, my cateye holder broke in like November so I’m completely relying on my Garmin for all my speed info.

I can’t believe I didn’t get the quick mount as soon as I ordered my Garmin. It is fantastic. First of all the run wrist band that it clips onto is soft and velcro! Waaay better than the stock Garmin wristband. So basically you just take the body of your Garmin and clip and un-clip it from bike to wrist! Awesome! Maybe I’ve been in the stone age without this device. But I’m recommending it to everyone now!

I had a fantastic 20 mile run yesterday. I ran out and met my long-run-Sunday-friends. They were all doing 14-16, so adding my run out to meet them and run home, I would hit 20 perfectly. I’m happy to report I had no gear malfunctions yesterday, but I did get a lot of attention for wearing my HOT pink CEP compression socks. Let me tell you, my legs felt fresh and bouncy until the end! I love those things.

I’m working on some t-shirt designs for my mom and Brett and some other supporters to wear at my Ironman. Brett says he’s ok wearing a HOT pink shirt….I might get black for him…but it will have pink writing. I’ll post pics when the design is final!

Ironman CDA is officially 4 weeks away!

Happy Training!

Hey everyone….I actually have content on all of my pages now! Yippee! Slowly but surely I’m getting this blogging/website thing down. It’s always fun while I’m doing it, but like anything, it takes a lot of time to get things just right. Today I updated the last two pages, Blog of the Week and Triathlon News. I like the idea of both of these pages because they are things I’m interested in, so hopefully you guys reading will also be interested in them. I love finding new inspiration in triathletes, runners, or endurance athletes. There is always great information out there about triathlon and endurance racing/training. Whether it’s new products, new techniques, new training, new races, or upcoming races. There is always something new to learn.

Brett is going to help me set-up these pages so they will be easier to update. Currently they are one page pages, so I would have to take off content and replace it with each update. Sucky huh? Ideally, I would like to them to be set up similar to my main post page. My goal is to really stay on top of these *worried face*. Let me know if you have blogs you love to read so I can feature them (or your blog too), or if you have some triathlon or endurance sports news I can post! Thanks for checkin’ me out again and again.

Oh, and I signed up for my first Ultra Marathon. Check me out! I’m pretty excited. There was this little voice in my head that kept saying, “remember how in every marathon you ever did you said you never wanted to take one step further than 26.2 miles?” I told that voice to shut up, and that if I can do an Ironman I’m sure I can run 31 miles. Get over your self-limiting self, self! Geeze. Come run with me and Dean Karnazes, at the Fresno 1/2 Marathon, Marathon, and 50K. That’s right, I said Dean’s coming too.

Last week was my recovery week. It was fantastic. It’s funny when you are closing in on your need for recovery…..and the idea of a run or a bike ride makes you want to cry. You start wondering why you are doing an Ironman, when you hate training. I was definitely in this low dark place before last week. Then coach prescribed a recovery week, and after two days of sleeping in, with light workouts I was REARING to go again. Loving my sport….craving long runs and rides, with extra swims! It is really amazing what a few days of recovery can do to you. By Friday I was BACK (the person who loves training, who loves taking her body to it’s limits) but, I was still recovering. Friday’s training was a 1 hour bike with an evening swim, I was so sad turning around on the bike after only 30 minutes with my friends. I toyed with the idea of just making it a 2 hour ride…I mean I felt good after all. Then I reminded myself how I felt the previous week (completely smashed!), and how I knew coach would take me to that place again soon enough. So, I turned around like a good girl. I came home and had energy to clean, cook, do laundry, and crafts and was still excited for evening swim practice. It was wonderful, I was a new girl.

The rest of my weekend was just as exciting and energy filled!! Saturday’s workout was a DAY OFF. Yep! I didn’t have to work or workout. WHAT? Yep, day off off. These happen pretty rarely during IM training because of my 12 hour shifts, I usually get my day off of training on a work day. Some work days are like marathons themselves, so it’s not always a “day off”. Saturday was though, so the puppy and I went for a 5 mile walk, and then I spent 2 hours doing yard work in the beautiful sun. I couldn’t let that sunny day go to waste just because I wasn’t training. (The funny thing about the yard work is how SOOOORE I was the next day! I must have done 100 squats picking up leaves, etc!)

I spent the rest of the day working on some crafts. I have this little purse that my brother gave me for Christmas probably 8 years ago, it’s been through a lot to say the least and the ink stains were finally the kicker. I thought I’d have to put the ol’ thing down. After trying to throw it away several times I finally decided maybe I could just patch it….or save it as a pattern and remake one. So I started taking it apart, as I took it apart I realized I really just needed to add new front pockets to it. In then end it became a refurbished purse! (I’ll post pics of the finished project later).

Another project I was diligently working on while recovering was my “project quilt”. Which is a quilt I’m making with squares from all my scraps that are left over from my projects. I’m about 3/4 of the way done with the top of the quilt. I think I’m going to put a flannel backing on so it’s SUPER duper cozy! It has been really really fun getting out old fabrics and remembering what I made with them. Most of them are from purses and aprons, but I’ve done some other fun things. I even put the OLD fabric from inside the refurbished purse on there! Jess (Brett’s sister) and I have been making hair flowers and head bands I’ll post some pictures when I actually finish one. We had a really fun crafting night the other night with some of her friends. Jess was on a roll finishing bags she promised her friends for their birthdays’ last year….I kept eyeing her fabrics hoping she’d have leftovers that I could craft with (she has good taste).
